About the Authors
Zack Etter | M. Ed
Zack is a Mental Performance Coach who recently graduated from Springfield College where he received his M.Ed. in Athletic Counseling. While at Springfield College, he worked with over 70 athletes on 8 different college and youth sports teams where he gave workshops that facilitate mental skills. He also held individual counseling sessions to promote overall growth and well-being with the goal of improving performance.
Zack graduated from The University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2014. While he was a student there he began his career coaching football at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol, Connecticut. He then went on to be an assistant coach for three different division-1 programs from 2013-2016 including The University of Connecticut, Fordham University, and The University of Delaware. In the summer of 2017, Zack worked with the Dallas Cowboys as a coach for youth and high school athletes at their summer camps at the team’s headquarters in Frisco, Texas.
In March 2018, Zack presented at the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic in New England to college, high school, and youth coaches about implementing mental skills into high school athletic programs
Leon Abravanel | MBA
Leon is the Founder and CEO of Tahoe Training Camps, a high performance sports camp in California that incorporates a mental skills program into the development of its players. Leon was a High School Academic All-American, played college soccer as a student-athlete at The University of San Diego and The University of Denver before playing professional soccer with the Los Angeles Blues. in Germany, Bolivia & United States.
Leon holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship & Organizational Leadership from California Lutheran University. He has used his experience and business acumen to start five companies that are largely driven by the mission of growing and improving both the physical and mental skills of youth athletes. One of those companies is Juggle the World, whose mission is to use soccer as a vehicle to get underserved youth into college, Leon founded the non-profit which is a competitive soccer club in Compton, CA. The club started with one team, and has now grown to over fifteen teams helping youth in Los Angeles.
Leon is currently the head boy’s soccer coach at his alma mater, South Tahoe High School where he oversees both the varsity and junior varsity teams. The program stresses mental skills as a program-wide discipline, and part of their training is to consider the mental factors that contribute to success on and off the field.
